I have lived in Colorado for enough years that I have been to Casa Bonita both pre and post- Matt & Trey ownership. It’s a great place for kids, though not somewhere I’d go very often based on the cost. It’s not a cheap evening. I think we’ve easily spent $200-$300 each time we’ve gone. Here is my overview of the good, and the not so good, at this Colorado landmark.
Reservations Reservations are still not the easiest thing to get. They open them in chunks of time (as I’m writing this they’re open for the next 4 months), so if there’s a particular day that you want, it’s a good idea to plan fairly well ahead. Especially if you want Premium Dining, meaning you sit near the cliffs and waterfall with prime viewing of the Cliff Diving Show. Standard dining can be just as fun though depending on where you are seated. There are multiple themed areas throughout the restaurant, including a mine, caves, and a Mexican village. Costs are flat fee for entry, an entree, and non-alcoholic drinks. For standard dining the rates are $29.99-$39.99 for adults, and $19.99-$24.99 for kids. Premium dining is a flat $44.99 for everyone.
Activities There is a lot there to keep your kids occupied. Black Bart’s Cave, an arcade, a Puppet Show, a Magic Show, Cliff Diving show, face painting, caricatures, balloon animals, and other entertainers walking around as well. Depending on the ages of your kids, they may love it, or they may be bored. I find even the teenage kids will like it once, subsequent visits may be boring for them though.
Food I actually kind of liked the old menu, always reminded me of a “hole in the wall” Mexican restaurant you might stumble across in California. The new food is definitely good, though that does come with a caveat. Both of the times post-remodel that I have eaten there, I have gotten quite ill. Nobody else in my family has had any problems, just me. Taste wise though, the drinks and food are quite good.
