The Colony Hotel on Ocean Drive
Spellbound Charter Fishing Boat

Have a day or two in Miami before leaving on a cruise? You can stick near the port and still find lots to fill the time. Here are a few ideas.

Lincoln Road Shopping District. This 8-block long outdoor mall is a great spot to stop and do some shopping. With over 200 shops and restaurants, as well as beautiful gardens and outdoor art.

Deep Sea Fishing. If you have at least half a day, you can charter a fishing boat and try your hand at reeling in a Mahi-Mahi, Sailfish, or a host of other exotic fish. Charters can run near $1000, but from personal experience, they are well worth it. I’ve done this once, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Take a walk along Ocean Drive. When you picture South Beach, you probably think of Ocean Drive. It’s been made an iconic image of Miami from countless TV and Films. The street is just across from the beach itself and lined with hotels, restaurants, shops, and bars. It’s a great place to stop for a bite to eat or a drink on your way to the ship.

Note: I stayed at the Colony Hotel last time I was in South Beach, and while it does have a nostalgic charm to it, it was not a place I would stay again.
