A lot of cruises pass through Nassau in the Bahamas. On its own Nassau is not my favorite Caribbean locale. It’s got some fun spots, but it’s kind of a run down city. Something you can find out quickly when talking to any taxi driver you come across.
The exception to this, is the Atlantis resort. It is a luxury resort that truly earns the name luxury. You can, of course, book a trip straight to this lovely resort. However, it is one of my favorite excursions when stopping in Nassau during a cruise. From the port you can catch a taxi (around $20 USD) from Nassau proper over to Paradise Island, where the resort is located. There are a few options from there. They have over 40 different options for food and drinks, including Nobu, which is one of my favorite restaurants in the whole world and an absolute must if you are a sushi lover.
For activities they have various marine life adventures available to book, like dolphin cay and a spectacular aquarium with multiple lagoons and even a walkthrough tunnel. My favorite activity though, is Aquaventure, their 141 acre water park with a variety of slides, pools and hot tubs, and a lazy/rapid river. My favorite slide ended going through a tunnel in the aquarium where you are surrounded by sharks. There are some super speedy ones for the more adventurous people in your party as well. The lazy/rapid river is really the gem of the waterpark though. It circles the whole park and has calm areas along with white water rapids and waves that are unlike any other river ride I’ve ever been on.
Most cruise ships will offer an excursion here, but I find it’s cheaper to book on your own. A day pass runs about $100 for kids and $200 for adults, but I found it was well worth the price. The kids can be entertained all morning, there are plenty of options for lunch right by the pools, and then the afternoon can be spent slowly walking around the exhibits once everyone has had their fill of adventures.
